NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished Monday's first and second rounds of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in 12th place. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,298-yard University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
The Sooners logged a first-round 305 (+17) and a second-round 296 (+8) and sit at 601 (+25) heading into Tuesday's final round. No. 8-ranked Kent State finished the day at the top of the leaderboard with a 575 (-1), while No. 22 UNLV and Texas Tech are tied for second place at 576 (E).
The sophomore duo of Ana Ruiz and Valerie Tanguay paced the Sooners on the day, each carding a 147 (+3) to share 20th place out of 75 competitors. Ruiz shot an even-par 72 in the opening round and added a 75 (+3) in round two. Tanguay struggled in the morning round, recording a 77 (+5), but responded with a career-best 70 (-2) in the afternoon round.
OU's Hannah Wood logged a 78 (+6) in the first round and added a second-round 75 (+3). The sophomore is tied for 48th place at 153 (+9).
Sophomore Rylee Pedigo is tied for 54th place at 154 (+10). Pedigo shot an opening-round 78 (+6) and a second-round 76 (+4). Freshman Julienne Soo recorded a first-round 84 (+12) and 78 (+6) in the afternoon round and is in 72nd place at 162 (+18).
"Val (Tanguay) and Ana (Ruiz) played solid today," seventh-year OU Head Coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. "They've been working hard and it's paying off for them at the right time."
