February 27, 2014 | Women's Golf

NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma's Alexandra Kaui was named the Big 12 Women's Golfer of the Month for February, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon. It is the second straight such honor for the freshman.

Kaui led the Sooners in their only tournament of the month, the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. She tied for third place in the 88-player field with a 2-over 215, which included a first round 69 (-2). The elite tournament featured seven teams ranked in Golfweek's top 25.

The Honolulu, Hawaii, native who attended high school in Las Vegas, Nev., posted a 71.6 stroke average for the month. Her October Big 12 Golfer of the Month honor marked the first time a Sooner won the award since Ellen Mueller in October 2010. Kaui is the only OU freshman to ever earn the honor.

Kaui and the Sooners will return to the course March 7-9 at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.
