NORMAN -- The University of Oklahoma wrestling team is set to compete in the inaugural Aloha Open, held in Honolulu on Tuesday inside McKinley High School. Competition is slated to begin at 2 p.m. CT and is expected to conclude at approximately 11 p.m. CT.

The event will feature four teams, including OU, No. 1 Minnesota, No. 20 Oregon State and American University. Each squad can bring up to 15 wrestlers for the event, which features a round-robin format where each competitor will face all other participants in his respective weight class.

Following the round-robin, the wrestlers with the best records will be named the champions in each weight class. The individual winners will qualify for an offseason trip to compete internationally with Team USA.

The four squads will give back to the sport of wrestling in Hawaii as they will lead as many as 16 clinics around the state for local high school and club programs.

Ranked Competitiors
The Sooners (3-4 overall), who finished sixth at the Reno Tournament of Champions on Dec. 21, have three ranked wrestlers in Cody Brewer (133 pounds), Justin DeAngelis (157 pounds) and Ross Larson (heavyweight). In the InterMat, TOM and AWN rankings, Brewer comes in at No. 3/2/2, DeAngelis at No. 11/9/8 and Larson at No. 11/10/8.
