NORMAN -- The No. 21 Oklahoma wrestling team faces an early season test as it takes on No. 3 Cornell at 5:30 p.m. CT on Saturday inside Newman Arena in Ithaca, N.Y.
OU head coach Mark Cody said he and his young squad are looking forward to the challenge.
“Rob Koll and his staff have built a national powerhouse here at Cornell,” Cody said. “They are currently ranked third in the country, and we are excited about the challenge. They are expecting a sold-out event, and it should be a great atmosphere.”
Ranked Competitors
The Sooners, who are coming off their 16th straight Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational title, enter the dual with three probable starters ranked in the top 20 of the latest InterMat poll.
Redshirt junior Cody Brewer (No. 3 at 133 pounds), redshirt senior Justin DeAngelis (No. 13 at 157 pounds) and redshirt sophomore Ross Larson (No. 12 at heavyweight) were all NCAA qualifiers for OU last season, and Brewer has two All-America honors to his name.
Cornell has four ranked probable starters in two-time All-American Nahshon Garrett (No. 2 at 125 pounds), NCAA qualifiers Mark Grey (No. 8 at 141 pounds) and Chris Villalonga (No. 7 at 149 pounds) and All-American Gabe Dean (No. 1 at 184 pounds).
OU vs. Cornell Series
The Sooners lead the all-time series with Cornell by a 5-3 mark. However, the Big Red won last season's semifinal meeting in the EAS Sports Nutrition/NWCA Division I National Duals in Columbus, Ohio, by a 23-20 score on Feb. 17, 2014.

Howe, who is currently an assistant coach for the Sooners, will wrestler Cornell great Kyle Dake for the welterweight title. Howe finished second in the 2014 Championships and secured the fourth All-America honor of his career, the first three coming at Wisconsin. In 2013, Dake became the only wrestler to win four national titles at four weight classes.
