Round-One Results

NORMAN -- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished Friday's first round of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational in 14th place. The tournament is being played at the 6,379-yard, par-72 UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The 18-team event features 10 squads in Golfweek/Sagarin's top 25. No. 1-ranked South Carolina finished the round in first place at 1 under par, while No. 20 Wake Forest and No. 6 Duke share second place at even par.

The Sooners were led by Ana Ruiz, who carded a 1-under 71 on the day. The freshman pocketed four birdies and is tied for 11th place out of 96 competitors.

Fellow OU freshman Hannah Wood finished the day tied for 29th place. Wood played the last nine holes at even par to finish at 74 (+2).

Sophomore Alexandra Kaui followed Wood, carding a 76 (+4) for a share of 53rd place.

Freshman Rylee Pedigo shot a 78 (+6) for a tie of 69th place, and sophomore Maggie Neece shot an 81 (+9). Neece is tied for 92nd place.

Sixth-year OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said was pleased with her team's play in the round.

“Overall we played fine. We made some putts but need to be patient,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “This is a great golf course with big greens, and we have to commit to the lines we pick for our putts. Ana (Ruiz) played solid today. She made a lot of birdies and it should build her confidence going into the rest of this weekend.”

The Sooners will tee off in Saturday's second round at 9:54 a.m. EST. The tournament will conclude Sunday. Live stats can be found at Golfstat.com.
