Completed Event: Football versus Illinois State on August 30, 2025 , Win , 35, to, 3

May 20, 2013 | Football
A physical defense featuring three All-Americans and true freshman QB Jamelle Holieway paced by a lightening-quick, option-oriented offense led Oklahoma to the national crown.
OU took a No. 3 national ranking into the Orange Bowl, but toppled No. 1 Penn State, 25-10. That, coupled with Miami's loss in the Sugar Bowl, vaulted the Sooners to their sixth national championship.
Big plays and Tim Lashar's kicking were the undoing of the Nittany Lions. Holieway, who led OU to eight straight wins after taking over as the starter, hit All-American tight end Keith Jackson on a 71-yard pass play and Lydell Car ran 61 yards for another TD. Lashar added four field goals.
