In a season so richly laced with great moments, the one for the ages came in the national title game, a 13-2 victory over Florida State in the Orange Bowl. It has been called by some the greatest defensive effort ever in a championship game.
The national title season came just two years into Bob Stoops' tenure and just two years removed from a sub-.500 season. Along the way, the Sooners had thrilling wins over Nebraska, Texas, Texas A&M and Kansas State (twice), with only one of those contests played in Norman.
Headliners included heavily decorated QB Josh Heupel, who finished second in the Heisman voting, and big-play linebacker Torrance Marshall. The mark at the end of the season was an unblemished 13-0.
