McConnell Finishes Fourth in Arkansas

NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma senior Claire McConnell was the lone representative for OU at the John McDonnell Combined Events Competition in Fayetteville, Ark., where she finished fourth overall with 5,097 points. The two-day competition began on Sunday afternoon and came to a close on Monday evening at John McDonnell Field at the University of Arkansas.

After the first day of competition, McConnell was in third place with 3,217 points through four events.

She began the first leg of the competition with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash after she stopped the clock in 25.04, and continued on the track with a fifth-place, 14.52 effort in the 100-meter hurdles.

McConnell added another third-place finish after she cleared 5-7.00 (1.70m), to match a career-best performance, in the high jump portion of the pentathlon. She closed the day with a personal best and sixth-place throw of 35-00.25 (10.67m) in the shot put.

The senior opened the second day of competition with an 18-5.00 (5.61) performance in the long jump to finish fifth overall, and finished her field events with a sixth-place throw of 79-2.00 (24.13) in the javelin portion of the competition.

McConnell finished the John McDonnell Combined Events Competition on Monday with a runner-up finish in the 800-meter run, after she clocked in at 2:23.07 to earn her total of 5,097 points.
