Sooners Add Seven Titles in Two Competitions

NORMAN, Okla. - In a meet dominated by performances in the field events, the Sooner men's and women's track and field teams recorded victories in six events at the Michael Johnson/Dr Pepper Invitational on Saturday. Four of those came in field events.

In late Friday night results, senior Patrick Casey won the men's invitational elite 1,500-meter run at the Mt. Sac Relays. His winning time of 3:40.27 was a career best by more than a second. The other Sooner competing in Walnut, Calif., Frezer Legesse, finished 10^th in the 1500-meter Olympic Development race.

Sooner winners on Saturday included Morgan Nichols in the women's pole vault (12-5.50), Landon Sharp in the men's high jump (6-10.75), Everette Favor in the men's pole vault (16-0.75), Tyler Renton in the men's javelin (228-6), Cessily Jones in the women's afternoon 200-meter dash (24.44) and Hilary Krein in the women's evening 1,500 (4:27.01).

The victories marked Sharp's third of the season in the high jump, Renton's third in the javelin and Jones' second of the season in the 200. It marked the first of the season for Favor, Nichols and Krein.

The efforts also represented career bests for Nichols, Krein, Sharp and Renton whose new best is more than four feet better than his previous top career mark. In all, eight Sooners posted career bests on Saturday in Waco.
