DES MOINES, Iowa - Sooner senior Tia Brooks continued her dominance in the shot put at the 104th Drake Relays Friday afternoon, winning her third consecutive Drake title.
Her winning throw of 60-11.25 (18.57) beat her own meet record by four inches. She recorded her winning toss on the third throw of the competition. She followed that with two fouls and another 60-foot plus throw. Her nearest competitor in the competition finished with a best throw of 59-7.
Her winning throw solidifies her spot as the top-ranked woman in the NCAA in the shot put. The second-place finisher today, Felisha Johnson of Indiana State, is also second behind Brooks in the national rankings.
Several Sooners will compete in the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday and Sooner Riley Masters will run the invitational 1,500-meter run on Sunday at Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational. That will mark the final competition before OU's head to Waco, Texas, for the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships scheduled to start on Friday, May 3.
