NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma men's track and field team remains in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 25 as the No. 15 team in the country, following its performance at the Razorback Spring Invitational and Stanford Invitational this past weekend, the organization announced Tuesday. Additionally, the women's team cracks the top-25 for the first time of the outdoor season as the No. 23 team in the latest NCAAA Division I rankings.
Five other Big 12 teams are in the men's ranking, including No. 5 Texas, No. 14 Texas Tech, No. 20 Kansas State, No. 23 Baylor and No. 25 Oklahoma State. The women are joined by No. 6 Texas, No. 13 Texas Tech, No. 14 Baylor and No. 17 Iowa State.
Additionally, the men's and women's team are ranked third and eighth, respectively, in the Midwest Region.
In the midst of the outdoor season, two members of the men's team carry top-10 qualifying marks in the NCAA. Senior Riley Masters is the top-ranked student-athlete in the 1,500-meter run, after he clocked a 3:40.77 to win the event at the Stanford Invitational this past weekend, while Tre' Lathan holds the ninth-best time in the 110-meter high hurdles after he stopped the clock in 13.71 at the Arkansas Spring Invitational.
A pair of freshmen javelin throwers, Elizabeth Herrs and Avione Allgood, currently hold the first and fourth best distances in the country in the event. Herrs leads all women's javelin throwers with a distance of 173-9.00 (52.97) after she won the event at the Arkansas Spring Invitational this past weekend, while Allgood holds the fourth-best distance with a throw of 170-5.00 (51.94m).
The Sooners are back in action this weekend when they travel to Arizona for a split competition. Select athletes will be in Mesa, Ariz., for the Mesa Classic on Friday, April 5, while other representatives from Oklahoma will be present in Tempe, Ariz., for the Sun Angel Classic, April 5-6.
