NORMAN, Okla. -- The third-ranked Oklahoma women's golf team is set to defend its 2012 conference title when it competes at the Big 12 Championship this Friday through Sunday at the 6,055-yard, par-72 Harvester Golf Club in Rhodes, Iowa.

The Sooners concluded the 2012-13 regular season with seven top-three finishes in their eight tournaments and won three events. OU has finished in first or second place in each of its last six tournaments.

Oklahoma enters the postseason as one of seven Big 12 schools ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 50. Other ranked squads are No.16 Texas, No. 17 Oklahoma State, No. 20 Texas Tech, No. 24 Baylor, No. 26 Iowa State and No. 48 TCU.

"We're excited to be back here and are looking forward to playing," said OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "We've been preparing for postseason play for a few months now and are planning on going out there and doing what we need to do."

Leading the way for the Sooners will be sixth-ranked and defending NCAA champion Chirapat Jao-Javanil. The junior holds the team's lowest stroke average at 71.58 (-0.17 in relation to par) and has finished in the top five in six of her eight tournaments this season. OU's career leader in scoring average (73.04), Jao-Javanil led the Sooners at last year's Big 12 Championship in Lawrence, Kan., by finishing in a tie for second place.

Anne-Catherine Tanguay, who is 35th nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, will compete in the No. 2 position for the Sooners this weekend. The junior has yet to finish outside of the top-20 in any of OU's eight tournaments, and boasts five top-10 finishes. Tanguay finished in fourth place at last year's Big 12 Championship.

Emily Collins, another junior, will play out of the No. 3 spot. Ranked 54th nationally, Collins is coming off an eighth-place finish at the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational. She has six career top-10 finishes, four of them this season.

Starting in OU's No.4 position and participating in her first Big 12 Championship will be junior Kaitlyn Rohrback. A transfer from Tennessee who is ranked 96th in the country, Rohrback has participated in six of OU's regular season tournaments and has posted four top-25 showings.

Rounding out the Sooners' lineup in the No. 5 spot will be senior Taylor Schmidt. Schmidt boasts four top-20 finishes this season, including a third-place showing at the Alamo Invitational in October where she carded a career-best 68 in the first round.

The 54-hole Big 12 Championship features three days of action. The first round begins Friday morning at 8 CT. On Saturday and Sunday, teams will be grouped in threesomes according to their finish in the previous round. The weekend weather forecast for Rhodes, Iowa, calls for cold temperatures (highs in the 40s and 50s on Friday and Saturday) and 15-25 mph winds. Live stats will be available at Golfstat.com.
