NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma rowing team earned its second conference Boat of the Week honor in two days as the varsity eight boat was named the season's first Big 12 Boat of the Week Wednesday. Tuesday, OU's second varsity eight was named the Conference USA Boat of the Week.

Oklahoma becomes the first program in conference history to earn the weekly award from both the Big 12 and Conference USA. Since only five Big 12 teams sponsor rowing, the Sooners, in addition to Kansas, Kansas State, Texas and West Virginia, also compete in Conference USA. The winner of the C-USA Championship earns an automatic bid in the NCAA Championship.

OU's varsity eight went undefeated at the Longhorn Invitational against conference rivals Texas and Kansas State as well as Tulsa and San Diego. The three-day regatta in Austin, Texas was capped by a 11.9-second win over Texas to secure the Longhorn Invite title for OU.

"It's a great honor to receive the Big 12's first Boat of the Week honor," head coach Leeanne Crain said.  "Our varsity eight is off to a great start this season.  We've got some outstanding senior leadership in this lineup, including three athletes who have been in our top eight since their freshman year.  I know it's extremely gratifying for them to see the growth of the team over the past four years and to see their hard work paying off in their senior year."

The boat was comprised of coxswain Carly Schueler, Rebecca Staff, Emmie Preskitt, Kristin Clift, Ivy Brown, Laura Combs, Nikki Furmanek, Kellie O'Reilly and Meghan Farrell.

The varsity eight helped Oklahoma win all 15 of its varsity races in Texas. For the first time in team history, the Sooners won every varsity race in a multi-day competition. The three-day regatta was capped by a four-race sweep of the Longhorns in the varsity events, a first for the OU program in its fifth season. This is the third conference honor for Oklahoma this season and first from the Big 12. The Sooners' varsity four claimed this year's first Conference USA accolade last week in addition to the second varsity four's award yesterday. OU has claimed all three conference Boat of the Week honors awarded this season.

The Sooners return to the water this weekend at the Pac 12 Challenge in Redwood City, Calif. OU will race Pac 12 powerhouses No. 2 California, No. 9 Stanford, and Oregon State on March 30-31.
