Rowing Takes Third In Grand Final

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -The University of Oklahoma women's rowing team completed competition at the San Diego Crew Classic Sunday by taking third-place finishes in the varsity eight and second varsity eight events while finishing sixth in the novice eight grand final.
The varsity eight finished third in the Women's Collegiate Eight SeaWorld Cal Cup Grand Final with a time of 7:15.86, just five seconds behind second place Oregon State (7:10.01) and seven seconds behind first place Duke (7:08.47). The event's No. 1 seed, the Sooners were defeated for the first time this season as they took third in the event with the crew beating out San Diego, Tulsa and Iowa.
Oklahoma's second varsity eight placed third in the Women's Second Varsity Petite Final with a time of 7:25.11, just three seconds behind its Big 12 rival Texas with a time of 7:22.47 and beating out Clemson, Tennessee and Oregon State for third.
The novice eight competed in its first grand final of the 2012 Spring season against California, UCLA, Washington, Minnesota and Washington State. The crew finished sixth with a time of 7:56.45.
The Sooners return to action in two weeks on April 14 in Ann Arbor, Mich., taking on Michigan and Ohio State.
