The 2012 Sooner squad was looking to become the seventh team in program history to begin the season with at least seven straight wins and the first since the 2007 team opened the year with 23 straight wins.
The game was a pitching duel between Oklahoma's Keilani Ricketts and Georgia Tech's Hope Rush who combined to give up just five hits on the game. Ricketts hit double digits in strikeouts for the third straight game with 13. The junior had 16 strikeouts versus UNLV and 12 against Kent State prior to Friday night's game.
Oklahoma out hit Georgia Tech, 3-2, but was unable to get any runners to the plate, stranding eight runners, all after the second inning.
The Yellow Jackets got the only run they would need when, despite not recording a hit, they became the first team to score on OU past the first inning with a run in the top of the fourth. Tech loaded the bases when Alysha Rudnik reached on a fielder's error after Ricketts hit Ashley Thomas and walked Kelsi Weseman. A Rush sacrifice fly to center sent Thomas home before Weseman was picked off on the base paths and Shannon Bear struck out.
Ricketts gave up her first hit in the fifth as Danielle Dike singled up the middle to lead off but the Oklahoma defense held the Yellow Jackets scoreless in the inning.
Chamberlain rapped out Oklahoma's first hit in the bottom of the third as she singled through the ride side to send Allee Allen, who had advanced on a fielder's choice, to second but the Sooners' Brianna Turang struck out to end the innings.
Oklahoma's biggest opportunity came in the bottom of the fifth when Javen Henson doubled to lead off the inning. After Kelley Reeves struck out, Henson advanced to third on a wild pitch but remained there after an Erica Sampson pop out to third and a Turang ground out to third.
The Sooners return to action on Saturday as OU will face the two SEC programs in the challenge, No. 2 Alabama and Auburn at 12:30 and 3 p.m., respectively.
