Michelle Gascoigne got the win for the Sooners as she improved to 4-0 on the year. The junior allowed just two hits in 4.2 innings of action while striking out eight of the 17 batters she faced. Kirsten Allen entered the circle for OU for the final out of the night.
The Sooners collected eight hits on the night and opened the scoring door in the top of the third when Jessica Shults walked before Keilani Ricketts doubled to place a hustling Shults on third. Sophomore Brittany Williams was up next and came through with a long sacrifice fly to deep left field to send Shults home for Oklahoma's first run.
The Sooners knocked the door of its hinges in the fourth as they used their sharp eyes to earn four walks en route to scoring six runs in the inning. Javen Henson was OU's second batter of the inning and with one out, she smacked a ground-run double over the left field fence. After Ali Vandever earned the inning's first walk, Destinee Martinez sent a hit up the middle of the UC Davis' infield and sent Henson home before Vandever ended up on third and Martinez on second.
The next play saw Lauren Chamberlain reach on a fielder's choice, although the scoring term does not do the play justice. Vandever forced the fielder's choice when she took off for home. Caught in a rundown, Vandever retreated to third, where Martinez stood. Martinez took off for second while Vandever beat the tag at third. With Martinez speeding back to second, UC Davis turned its attention to Chamberlain, who had been standing on second. Chamberlain made it back in time to first, but while she did Vandever attempted to take home, for a second time, and proceed to get caught up in another run down with Martinez again ending up on third when Vandever attempted to return to the base. Vandever slid headfirst into third as Martinez took off to second, for the second time, and when the dust had settled, OU had the bases loaded with a simple fielder's choice.
Shults came up after the fielder's choice and grabbed OU's second walk of the night to send Vandever to home for good this time. After a UC Davis pitching change, Ricketts picked up a walk to send Martinez home. Williams earned OU's third consecutive walk to send Chamberlain home. Allee Allen reached on OU's second fielder's choice of the inning when the UC Davis shortstop attempted to throw out Shults at home and overthrew her catcher allowing Ricketts to come home as well to give OU a 7-0 lead after four innings.
The Oklahoma offensive onslaught continued in the fifth when Henson walked to start the inning followed by a Vandever single. Both OU runners stole a base before Martinez reached on a fielder's choice as Henson was thrown out at the plate. After Martinez stole second, Chamberlain hit a deep sacrifice fly to center to send Vandever home for the second time of the night. Showing off her speed for the second time of the game, Shults roped a triple to deep right center that sent Martinez home. A Katie Norris single to left field brought home Shults for Oklahoma's 10th and final run of the night.
Oklahoma returns to action on Friday with games against Boise State at 3:30 p.m. PST and No. 14 Stanford at 6 p.m. PST.
