NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma wrestling squad, ranked preseason No. 11 by Amateur Wrestling News and 14 by Intermat, begins the 2012-13 season this Friday night, Nov. 2, when it hosts Oklahoma City University inside McCasland Field House at 7 p.m.

The Sooners have five individually ranked wrestlers to begin the season, headlined by returning all-American Kendric Maple, ranked No. 1 at 141 pounds.

Nick Lester, also a returning All-American, is ranked No. 9 at 149 pounds, while brother Matt Lester, a 2012 NCAA automatic qualifier, is No. 12 at 157 pounds. Bubby Graham, one-of-six returning NCAA qualifiers for OU, and Keldrick Hall round out the ranked Sooners at No. 9 at 165 pounds and No. 20 in the heavyweight group, respectively.

In addition to its top returners, OU adds two decorated transfers in Andrew Howe, an NCAA Champion and three-time All-American, and Travis Rutt an All-American wrestler in 2011.

Oklahoma City counters after a breakthrough 2011-12 season that saw it finish fifth at the NAIA Championships with four All-Americans, and the program's first ever individual national champion, Kevin Hardy, at 165 pounds, who graduated last year.

Heading into the 2012-13 season, the Stars are ranked preseason No. 14 by the NAIA Wrestling Coaches' Association. Alongside the team's preseason success, nine individual wrestlers were ranked in the top 16 of their weight class.

The Stars return two All-Americans in 184-pounder Mitchell Eichenauer, ranked seventh in his weight class by the NAIA Wrestling Coaches' poll, and Michael Brown who tops the 197 pounders in the polls.

Kidd Gomez comes in at ninth at 125 pounds, Trevor Sterling 11th at 141 pounds, while Mark Meyer rounds out the 157-pound weight class with the No. 16 spot. Zach Skates headlines the 165 pounders at No. 13, while the duo of Teagan Franco and Tyson Campbell come in at 13 and 15, respectively, in the 174 pound weight class. Heavyweight Stanley Lattimore completes the group for OCU with the No. 12 spot at 285 pounds.

Oklahoma recorded a 33-6 defeat of the Stars in last year's season opener and leads the series by a 6-0 margin heading into Friday night's contest.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets are still available for purchase. Season tickets and single-meet tickets are now on sale online or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at (405) 325-2424 or toll-free at (800) 456-GoOU.
