Brooks Earns Big 12 Weekly Honor

NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma redshirt junior Tia Brooks has been named the Big 12 Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week for Jan. 20-22, 2012, the conference office announced this afternoon. The honor is the first of her career.

Brooks threw an American-leading 60 feet, eight inches in the shot put to break numerous records on Saturday at the J.D. Martin Invitational in addition to automatically qualifying for the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships in Nampa, Idaho.

Brooks met the Olympic A standard in the win, in addition to throwing the top mark in the NCAA this year, third best mark in the world, setting an OU program record and breaking records for the Mosier Indoor Facility and J.D. Martin Invitational.

The mark makes Brooks the fifth-best performer in the event all-time in the NCAA and gives the Grand Rapids, Mich., native, the 13th best throw of all-time in the NCAA.
