Ricketts Shuts Down Kansas in Doubleheader

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The 14th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team scored a combined 25 runs on 29 hits to sweep Kansas in a doubleheader Wednesday at Arrocha Ballpark. The Sooners (31-10, 4-2 Big 12) took the opening game 12-6 and the second 13-5. The Jayhawks fell to 27-12 overall and 0-8 in conference play. Keilani Ricketts moved to 18-6 on the year with the win in game one and pitched in relief in game two, shutting down the Jayhawks offensively.
Brittany Williams went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one driven in during the opening game. Ricketts added a three-run home run in the third to put OU up 6-0 through three. The home run highlighted her 1-for-3 day at the plate. She scored two runs and recorded a fourth RBI on a bases loaded walk in the fourth.
Dani Dobbs kick-started her impressive day, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two driven in. Chana'e Jones also added two hits and drove in two runs during the first contest. In all, Oklahoma scored 12 runs on nine hits.
Ricketts pitched 5.1 innings allowing just one hit, two walks and 10 strikeouts. She gave way to Kirsten Allen in the fourth. K. Allen went 1.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits and one walk. Allee Allen pitched just one-third of an inning, allowing two earned runs on two hits before Ricketts re-entered the game.
Allie Clark (11-6) picked up the loss for Kansas. Clark allowed six runs, three of them earned, on three hits and six walks. Laura Vickers led the Jayhawks by driving in three runs on a home run.
Oklahoma 13, Kansas 5
The Sooners offense exploded for 20 hits, its most since recording 23 against Arkansas in 2009. Dobbs led the way, going a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs scored and four driven in. She belted her seventh home run of the year, a solo shot to leadoff the third. Ricketts hit her second career grand slam, highlighting a 2-for-3 showing. All 13 of OU's runs were driven in as seven of OU's batters recorded multiple hits.
Michelle Gascoigne moved to 8-3 on the year, pitching 5.0 innings. Gascoigne allowed five earned runs on six hits and two walks. She struck out nine. Ricketts pitched the final 2.0 innings, giving up just one walk.
Brittany Hile had two solo home runs for the Jayhawks and Maggie Hull hit her sixth long ball of the year to keep the game close in the middle frames. Kansas starter Kristin Martinez (12-5) pitched 3.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and three walks.
Oklahoma returns home this weekend against No. 17 Baylor. Saturday's series opener is set for 2 p.m. CT at the OU Softball Complex. The finale follows on Sunday at noon CT.
