CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The sixth-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team dropped a 2-1 decision to Long Beach State Friday morning at the Cathedral City Classic. Dani Dobbs scored on a Destinee Martinez single in the fourth inning to plate the Sooners' only run.
OU starter Michelle Gascoigne (3-3) gave up a two-run home run to Sarah Carrasco in the bottom of the first that proved to be the difference in the game.
Oklahoma left the bases loaded in two different innings and stranded eight runners on base. OU got six hits off LBSU pitcher Erin Jones-Wesley. Wesley (5-0) walked two and struck out six.
Martinez led the Sooners, going 2-for-4 with the one run driven in. Chana'e Jones went 2-for-3, and Brittany Williams drew two walks. Gascoigne pitched 4.1 innings, allowing the two runs on four hits. She walked two and struck out four. Keilani Ricketts pitched the final 1.2 innings, striking out three.
