LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The sixth-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team moved to 8-1 on the year with a pair of wins at the Troy Cox Classic on Friday. OU opened with an 8-3 win over Southern Utah and defeated host school New Mexico State 7-4 in the second game of the day.

Two solo home runs by freshman Brittany Williams fueled the 7-4 win over NMSU. Williams ended the night 2-for-3. Sophomore Keilani Ricketts tied her career high with 15 strikeouts. Ricketts threw a complete game, allowing four earned runs on six hits and five walks.

Ricketts went 2-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run. Haley Nix had multiple hits, as well, finishing the night 2-for-4 with one run driven in.

Brittany Clifton went 2-for-2 with two walks for the Aggies. Celisha Walker got the loss, allowing seven runs, six of them earned, on 13 hits. Walked allowed four walks and struck out three.

Williams' first home run gave OU an early 1-0 lead in the second, and the Sooners added a second run in the third when Brianna Turang scored on a Nix single.

Oklahoma added three in the sixth as pinch runner Cierra Hughes advanced to second on an NMSU miscue and moved to third on a stolen base before scoring on Dani Dobbs' single up the middle. Chana'e Jones reached on a walk and came in on Turang's infield single. Dobbs stole second and moved to third on Turang's hit before Destinee Martinez successfully laid down a bunt to score Dobbs before the inning ended.

The Aggies got on the board in the bottom of the sixth as Valerie Swedberg and Tehani Kaaihue scored on a walk and single, respectively.

OU got the two runs back in the top frame of the seventh. Williams and Ricketts hit home runs back-to-back as the Sooners led 7-2 heading into the bottom half of the inning.

Hoku Nohara led off the inning with a walk and advanced on a wild pitch before scoring on Teresa Conrad's triple. Conrad then scored on Kaaihue's two-out single.
