AKRON, Ohio — After qualifying in the shot put for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships last week, Tia Brooks and Karen Shump could have easily relaxed a bit this week. The sophomore duo did not however as each eclipsed the NCAA automatic qualifying standard in the shot put for the second straight week as they finished first and second, respectively, Saturday at the Akron Invitational.

Brooks recorded a personal best throw of 56-4.00 (17.17) as she ended Shump's undefeated season in the event by extending her PR by over a foot. Brooks entered the weekend with a personal best of 54-11.25 (16.74). Shump was over a foot behind Brooks in second with a throw of 55-3.75 (16.86).

With Shump's season best of 56-10.75 (17.34), the two now own the top two throws in the Big 12 Conference this season. Shump ranks third nationally while Brooks now stands fifth nationally.

K.P. Singh took third in the men's weight throw with a toss of 67-5.50 (20.56).
