NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma men's tennis head coach John Roddick announced today the addition of Laurentiu Gavrila to the 2011 squad.
Gavrila, a Romanian native, comes to Norman with a multitude of accolades to his name, including a career-high ATP, Associated of Tennis Professionals, singles ranking of 888. In doubles Gavrila was ranked as high as 721 nationally.
"We are extremely excited to have Laurentiu join our Sooner Family," John Roddick said. "He's a tremendously talented and accomplished player, having been the Romanian National Champion and also having a good amount of success in the ITF challenger and Futures circuit."
Gavrila earned a Romanian National Title and is the No. 1-ranked Romanian in his age group. Additionally, he qualified for the Brasov Challenger and reached the quarterfinals of the Romania F10 tournament.
With such a lofty resume Roddick expects big things from his prized pupil.
"We believe that Laurentiu will have a chance to be an impact player from the moment he arrives on campus," Roddick said. "He has the tools to eventually become one of the top players in the country."
