NORMAN, Okla. — The University of Oklahoma women's track and field program has reached its highest national ranking at No. 4 while the OU men come in at No. 11 in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings released Tuesday afternoon. Both squads own the top ranking in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region while the women are second among Big 12 schools in the national rankings and the men third. The women jumped three spots in this week's rankings while the men moved up one spot.

The women are led in the throws ring where Brittany Borman is the No. 1 athlete in the nation in the discus as well as the No. 5 athlete in the javelin. Borman is one of two throwers in the nation's top five in two events as Karen Shump is No. 3 in both the shot put and discus. Senior Amy Backel is No. 4 in the javelin and No. 17 in the shot put and redshirt-freshman Tia Brooks is No. 6 in the shot put after winning the event at last week's Sooner Invitational.

On the track, Latoya Greaves is No. 7 in the 100-meter hurdles, an event she won the 2008 Big 12 title in, while Scottesha Miller is No. 8 in the 100-meter dash and No. 12 in the 200-meter dash. Miller is also the anchor leg of the women's 4x100-meter relay that ranks 14th nationally. In all, OU women hold down 13 spots in the top 25 of event's national rankings.

USTFCCCA Rankings Central

On the men's side, defending NCAA 100-meter hurdles champion Ronnie Ash leads the way as the nation's top athlete in the event. Ash owns four titles in the event this year as the junior has yet to be defeated. Ash is one of five Sooners ranked in the top 10 in the nation.

Eric Bailey is No. 6 in the 400-meter hurdles as is defending Big 12 discus champion Luke Bryant. The defending NCAA champion in the triple jump, Will Claye, is currently No. 7 in the event having competed at just two meets this season. The 4x400-meter relay of Zach Dawson, Remuro Henry, Jarell Warren and Bailey round out Oklahoma entries in the top at No. 9 in the event.

Triple jumper Neelon Greenwood is just out of the top 10 at No. 11 while sprinter Mookie Salaam is No. 14 in the 100 and No. 17 in the 200. Jeremy Sudbury leads all distance athletes at No. 22 in the 10,000-meter run while K.P. Singh is No. 14 in the discus and No. 19 in the hammer throw. Colin Quirke is also ranked No. 19 in the discus.

In all, the Oklahoma men have 24 athletes ranked with 14 in the nation's top 25 of their respective events.

The Oklahoma program returns to action this weekend as men's distance heads to Palo Alto, Calif., women's distance travels to Eugene, Ore., and the remainder of the team heads south to Austin, Texas.
