NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma Track and Field program hosts its second consecutive home meet this weekend as athletes from 16 programs descend on the John Jacobs Track and Field Complex for the two-day Sooner Invitational. Action is slated to kick off Friday at 2 p.m. with the women's heptathlon and men's javelin. Saturday's schedule is slated to begin with field events at 10 a.m. followed by running events at 1:30 p.m. Admission to the event is free.
The meet is the second of three outdoor meets that OU hosts in 2010 and comes one week after the John Jacobs Invitational that saw Oklahoma athletes capture seven titles. The No. 7 Oklahoman women and No. 12 men will face Big 12 rivals Oklahoma State and Texas Tech along with six other NCAA Division I teams in North Texas, Oral Roberts, SMU, TCU, Vanderbilt and Wichita State. The Texas Tech men enter the meet ranked No. 5 nationally.
Two OU athletes, both Big 12 champions in 2009, will attempt to defend 2009 Sooner Invitational titles as Luke Bryant competes in the discus and sophomore Will Claye tries to make it two straight in both the long and triple jump. Oklahoma alum Mikaela Johansson, competing unattached, also looks to defend a title in the women's hammer throw.
Live results for the event will be provided by Delta Timing and available on SoonerSports.com.
