NEW YORK CITY — Oklahoma Track and Field athletes earned 10 NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the first of two days of action, Friday, at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City. The meet, held inside the New Balance Track and Field center, features 16 nationally ranked teams including Oklahoma's No. 9 men and No. 15 women.
The men's 60-meter hurdles saw Ronnie Ash clock the second-fastest time in OU history as the junior finished third with a time of 7.74. Ash's time was just off the program record of 7.73 set by Sheldon Leith in 2008. Ash was joined in the finals of the event by Malcolm Anderson who finished sixth with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.90.
Ash and Anderson each recorded NCAA provisional qualifying times in the event's prelims as Anderson grabbed the first qualifying spot with a time of 7.76, the third-fastest time ever at OU, and Ash followed with a time of 7.81.
Latoya Greaves took third in the 60-meter hurdles, running a season-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.26. The time was just off Greaves' PR of 8.21. Greaves qualified for the finals with the fourth-fastest time in the event's prelims, a provisional qualifying time of 8.34.
Scottesha Miller earned a spot in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a provisional qualifying time of 7.37 in the prelims, just off her PR of 7.35 set earlier this season. Miller was unable to improve on the time in the finals, however after being disqualified for a false start. Sherine Wells finished eighth in the event's consolation finals with a time of 7.52. Wells clocked a time of 7.50 in the event's prelims.
The long jump saw NCAA provisional qualifying marks in both the men's and women's sand pits. Ti'Anca Mock finished fifth in the women's long jump with a top jump of 20-3.00 (6.17) while Neelon Greenwood was eighth in the men's division with a jump of 24-7.25 (7.50).
The men's distance medley relay of Rob Sorrell, Remuro Henry, Chris Sweeney and Kevin Williams finished fourth, clocking the ninth-fastest time in OU history with a time of 9:47.18.
Freshman Marlena Wesh narrowly missed advancing to the finals of the women's championship 400-meter dash, finishing 11th with a time of 54.91, the seventh-fastest time in program history.
Another freshman, Daniel Nix, won the college division of the men's 400-meter dash, recording a time of 48.54.
Zach Dawson finished fifth in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:03.21 after winning the event's second heat.
