ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Five Oklahoma Track and Field alums concluded competition in the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships Sunday in Albuquerque as all five finished in the top nine of their respective events. The two-day event featured the nation's top professional athletes with a small number of top collegians competing as well.
Triple jumper Toni Smith finished fourth in the women's triple jump with a top mark of 44-1.25 (13.44). Smith's best effort came on her third attempt as Nike's Erica McLain won the event with a jump of 46-1.50 (14.06).
The men's triple jump saw two OU alums capture top-seven finishes as Shardae Boutte and Tydree Lewis finished fifth and seventh, respectively. Boutte's top jump of 53-11.25 (16.44) came on his third attempt while Lewis finished with a top attempt of 52-10.00 (16.10). Lawrence Willis won the event with a jump of 55-3.75 (16.86). OU volunteer coach Daniel Marshall was ninth with a distance of 50-3.25 (15.32).
In her first year on the professional level, Leslie Cole, who recently signed with Nike, finished ninth in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 53.35, just narrowly missing a spot in the finals of the event. Cole finished her collegiate career in 2009 and holds both the OU indoor and outdoor 400 records. Debbie Dunn won the finals of the event with a meet record of 50.86.
A two-time Big 12 champion in the shot put, Kevin Bookout finished eighth in the event with a toss of 61-11.00 (18.87). Nike's Christian Cantwell won the event with a throw of 69-4.00 (21.13).
