NORMAN, Okla. — Five alums of the University of Oklahoma Track and Field program head to Albuquerque, N.M., this weekend for the 2010 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships with the chance to represent the U.S. in the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships on the line. Kevin Bookout, Shardae Boutte, Leslie Cole, Tydree Lewis and Toni Smith will all compete in the two-day event that is the concluding event of USATF's Indoor Visa Championship Series.
Smith, the Oklahoma record holder in the women's triple jump, enters the championships as the nation's best triple jump of the year, a mark of 45-4.25 (13.82). Smith was a four-time All-American while at OU.
The men's triple jump will see two recent OU alums as Boutte and Lewis compete in the event. Boutte, a three-time Big 12 champion, has the fourth-best qualifying mark of event's entrants, a jump of 53-8.50 (16.37). Lewis, the 2008 NCAA Indoor runner-up in the event, is not far behind with the seventh-best qualifying mark, a jump of 52-8.75 (16.07).
A five-time All-American, Cole will compete in the women's 400-meter dash. Cole's qualifying time of 52.43 is the fourth-best time among the qualifiers in the event. Cole holds the OU program record in both the indoor and outdoor 400 and is the member of four relays that hold Oklahoma program records.
A two-time Big 12 champion in the shot put, Bookout has returned to the sport after a brief time spent playing basketball. The OU record holder in the outdoor shot put, Bookout enters the meet with the eighth-best qualifying mark, a throw of 63-5.00 (19.33).
