NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma thrower K.P. Singh was named the Big 12 Athlete of the Week the conference announced Tuesday after the junior broke his own school record in the weight throw en route to winning the event Saturday at the Sooner Open. Singh's throw of 69-0.00 (21.03) topped his previous school record of 67-2.75 (20.49) by over a foot as the Clovis, Calif., native moved into first in the Big 12 and eighth in the nation with the win.

Singh's honor gives OU its second straight and third overall Big 12 Athlete of the Week after Ronnie Ash claimed the Feb. 16 honor after breaking the Oklahoma record in the 60-meter hurdles. Sprinter Scottesha Miller earned the first on Jan. 12.

The OU Track and Field program ranks second in the Big 12 with Big 12 Athletes of the Week behind Texas A&M.
