OU Women Reach Season's Highest Ranking

OU Men up Four Spots in Latest Rankings

NORMAN, Okla. — The week leading to the Big 12 Indoor Championships saw the Oklahoma men's track and field team jump four spots up to No. 12 in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings released Tuesday. While the men moved up, the Oklahoma women remained in the top 15 at No. 15.

Both the Oklahoma men and women are second in the USTFCCCA Midwest region while the men are fifth among Big 12 teams in the top 25 and the women third among Big 12 squads.

The Sooner men were helped in the rankings by weight thrower K.P. Singh who moved up to eighth nationally after breaking his own OU record in the event Saturday at the Sooner Open. Singh is joined in the top 10 by the men's 4x400-meter relay, ranked sixth, and Ronnie Ash and Malcolm Anderson, ranked second and sixth respectively in the 60-meter hurdles.

On the women's side, Scottesha Miller leads OU with a No. 3 ranking in the 200-meter dash and a No. 10 ranking in the 60-meter dash. The shot put has three OU women in the top 20 as Karen Shump (No. 5), Tia Brooks (No. 12) and Amy Backel (No. 20) all rank in the top four of the Big 12 in the event. Jasmine Simmons (No. 11 - triple jump) and Latoya Greaves (No. 11 - 60-meter hurdles) also sport top-15 national rankings.
