NORMAN, Okla. — The University of Oklahoma women's track and field team moved up to its highest national ranking of the season when the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its latest rankings Monday evening. The team improved six spots to No. 13 in the national rankings while the Oklahoma men appear in the USTFCCCA rankings at No. 16.

The Oklahoma women are second among Big 12 teams behind No. 2 Texas A&M as the USTFCCCA rankings format made the switch from pre-season and 2010 marks to marks from the 2010 season only. The team is bolstered by five women in the top 10 of their respective events.

Scottesha Miller leads the way as the junior is ranked third in the 200-meter dash and ninth in the 60-meter dash. Miller ranks second in the Big 12 in both events.

Redshirt-freshman Karen Shump is No. 5 in the women's shot put, one of three Sooners ranked in the event as Tia Brooks comes in at No. 12 and Amy Backel at No. 18.

The 2008 Big 12 champion in the 60-meter hurdles, Latoya Greaves is No. 10 in the event as is Jasmine Simmons in the triple jump. Ti'Anca Mock rounds out the ranked female athletes at No. 20 in the long jump.

On the men's side, Ronnie Ash leads 11 Sooners and one relay ranked in 14 different events. Ash, the 2009 NCAA champion in the 60-meter hurdles, currently ranks second in the event. Ash is joined in the 60-meter hurdles rankings by teammate Malcolm Anderson who ranks sixth as OU is the only team in the nation with two hurdlers in the nation's top 10. Also ranking sixth in the quartet of Remuro Henry, Jarell Warren, Eric Bailey and Zach Dawson in the 4x400-meter relay.

The men's distance group has five athletes ranked led by milers Jacob Boone (No. 13) and Eric Harasyn (No. 17) who both broke the four-minute barrier in the men's mile last weekend at the UW Husky Invitational. The men's 3,000-meter run also has two Sooners ranked as Rob Sorrell comes in at No. 18 and Kevin Williams comes in at No. 29. Chris Sweeney, No. 36 in the 800-meter run, rounds out the distance rankings.

Mookie Salaam and Neelon Greenwood are both nationally ranked in two events as Salaam is No. 14 in the 200-meter dash and No. 36 in the 60-meter dash. Greenwood is No. 19 in the triple jump and No. 33 in the long jump. Greenwood is joined in the triple jump rankings by Marco Moon at No. 30.
