NORMAN, Okla. — For the third consecutive time, the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships will feature student-athletes from the University of Oklahoma Track and Field program as first-year Sooners Will Claye and Alex Madkins head to Trinidad & Tobago this weekend as members of a U.S. contingent that hopes to top the 48 medals won by Team USA in 2007.

The NCAA and U.S. Junior National champion in the triple jump, Claye will represent the red, white and blue in his prime event, entering the meet as the world's top junior triple jumper. The Big 12 champion holds the U.S. Junior National record in the event after breaking the previous 27-year old record earlier this season.

Madkins will compete in the long jump after finishing third in the event at the U.S. Junior National Championships behind Claye and U.S. teammate Marquise Goodwin with a personal-best jump of 25-2.50 (7.68).

The duo continues a recent tradition of Oklahoma athletes competing in the event as current Sooner Kevin Snyder finished second in the high jump in 2007 while OU alum Marcus Pugh won gold as a member of the 4x100-meter relay in 2005.
