NORMAN, Okla. — In one of the busiest weekends of the year for the University of Oklahoma Athletics Department, the OU Track and Field Program is set to host over 40 programs from across the Midwest in this weekend's NCAA Midwest Track and Field Regional. Over 800 athletes are expected to compete in the event that sends the top-five finishers in each individual event and top three relays to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The event will showcase 15 of the nation's top 25 teams along with 15 athletes who are ranked No. 1 nationally in their respective events.
The two-day event at the John Jacobs Track and Field Complex kicks off Friday at 11 a.m. with the women's hammer throw. Running events begin at 3:30 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay. Saturday's action also begins at 11 a.m. with the men's hammer throw as action on the track starts at 5 p.m. with the finals of the women's 4x100-meter relay
The Oklahoma program will be represented by 41 entries in the meet, 21 on the men's side and 20 on the women's. OU freshman Will Claye is one of the 15 athletes who hold down a top national ranking, leading the country in the men's triple jump. Claye is also ranked 11th nationally and third regionally in the long jump.
On the women's side, OU is led by senior Leslie Cole (400-meter dash) and sophomore Ti'Anca Mock (long jump), each ranked second in the nation in their respective events.
The women's 4x100-meter relay of Sherine Wells, Scottesha Miller, Cole and Mock is ranked seventh in the nation and third in the Midwest Region. Freshman Luke Bryant rounds out Oklahoma athletes in the nation's top 10 with a No. 9 ranking in the discus, good for second in the region.
Tickets for the event can be purchased online at SoonerSports.com or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at (405) 325-2424 or toll-free at (800) 456-GoOU.
