OU Men's Golf Closes in 10th at ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. - The OU men's golf squad placed 10th at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., on Saturday, in its final regular season event of the year. The Sooners fired rounds of 287, 292 and 289 at the par-71, 7057-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course, closing the 54-hole event at +16.

Host squad Arizona State (-14) was the only team in red figures for the event, winning the event for the second year in a row with a 18 shot victory over Denver and San Diego State.

Eric Durbin fired a final-round 72, finishing the event tied for ninth place at even par (70-71-72). Three additional birdies in Saturday's final round pushed his tournament total to 14, as Durbin finished just three shots behind the leaders.

ASU's Stephan Gross and New Mexico's Steve Saunders shared medalist honors at -3.

Liam Logan jumped to T25th after a 2-under-par 69 that included four birdies in a five-hole stretch midway through his final round. Logan played his final 12 holes at -4 after a double-bogey at the par-4 fifth hole.

Ryan Sirman (70-75-74) closed the 54-hole event tied for 46th, while Ben Blundell carded a 74 on Saturday for a share of 75th (74-75-74), highlighted by an eagle at the par-5 10th.

Rounding out the Oklahoma team scoring was Chris Wilson who shot 81 on Saturday after back-to-back 73s and finished 86th.

OU returns to the links April 27-29 at the Big 12 Championships in Hutchinson, Kan.
