Sooners Stand Ninth at Big 12s

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The OU men's golf squad stands ninth at the 2009 Big 12 Championship after rounds of 310 (+30) and 301 (+21) on Monday at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
Battling temperatures in the 40s and wind gusts of 25 mph, four of OU's five-man lineup either tied or bested their first round score during afternoon action as Oklahoma jumped to ninth with the nine-stroke improvement.
Liam Logan paced the Sooners with consecutive rounds of 76 on Monday at the 6,701-yard, par-70 layout. The Fort Worth, Texas, native stands T22nd with a two-round total of 152 (+12).
Riley Pumphrey (T31st) fired a second-round 75 after a 79 on Monday morning, leading the other Oklahoma golfers, whom are all bunched within three shots of each other. Tyler Rody (80-75) stands T35th, while Ryan Sirman (75-81) is T40th on the leaderboard after 36 holes.
Rounding out the OU team scoring is Eric Durbin (T45th), who carded the biggest improvement of the Sooners with a second-round 75 after shooting an 82 in morning play.
Oklahoma State and Colorado share the lead on day one with a two-round total of 581 (+21). CU's Derek Tolan (71-68) and Bill Allcorn of Baylor (68-71) were the only two players in red figures on Monday, sharing a one-shot lead over Texas A&M's Bronson Burgoon.
The Sooners will open Tuesday's action on the 10th hole at 8 a.m. (CT). Playing with Oklahoma is Kansas State and Texas. The 72-hole event features 18 holes on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
