Sooners Dominate in Corvallis, Advance to NCAA Championships

CORVALLIS, Ore. – For the 15th consecutive season and 52nd time in program history, Oklahoma men's golf is headed to the NCAA Championships. The Sooners captured the team title at the NCAA Corvallis Regional, winning their third straight regional championship and ninth all-time regional crown, the third-most regional titles of any program in the nation.

Oklahoma's (1, -34) 15 straight NCAA Championship appearances mark the second-longest active streak in the country and leave the Sooners one shy of the program record of 16 consecutive berths from 1981-96.

The Sooners dominated the field at Trysting Tree Golf Club, setting a NCAA Regional program record at 34-under par across 54 holes. OU's 20-shot victory matched the largest regional win margin in program history, tying its win at the 2015 NCAA Stanford Regional. Oklahoma was one of five teams to advance from Corvallis to the NCAA Championships, set for May 29-June 3 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

Three Sooners finished inside the top five individually, led by Jase Summy and Clark Van Gaalen, who tied for second at 9-under par, while Ryder Cowan finished fourth at 8-under.

Summy (T2, -9) posted three rounds in the 60s and closed with a final-round 67 to tie Drew Goodman's program record for career par-or-better rounds with 96. The senior All-American enters the final tournament of his collegiate career already owning OU records for career scoring average (70.67, -0.60 vs. par), birdies (606) and rounds in the 60s (57).

Van Gaalen (T2, -9) earned runner-up honors at an NCAA Regional for the second straight season. The sophomore from Turlock, Calif., recorded his first top-five finish of the year after carding rounds of 68-66-70 at the par-71 course.

Cowan (T4, -8) played bogey-free golf through the tournament's opening 48 holes and held the individual lead through 12 holes of Wednesday's final round. A pair of triple bogeys on the back nine, including at the 18th, dropped the junior All-American into fourth. Cowan now owns a team-best six top-10 finishes and four top-five results this season.

PJ Maybank III (T24, -1) also finished under par for the week, while Matthew Troutman (T60, +7) climbed 15 spots on the leaderboard after firing a final-round 69 (-2).

Advancing alongside Oklahoma from the Corvallis Regional were UCLA, top-seeded Arkansas, Purdue and San Diego, who defeated Liberty in a playoff. Entering the week as the No. 3 seed, the Sooners outperformed their seed at an NCAA Regional for the 10th time in program history, the fourth-most nationally.

Liberty's Michael Lugiano won medalist honors at 12-under par and will advance to nationals as the low individual on a non-advancing team.

The NCAA Championships begin May 29 in Carlsbad and feature 54 holes of stroke play before the 30-team field is cut to 15 teams. Following a fourth round, the top eight teams advance to match play to compete for the national championship. Oklahoma owns two NCAA titles (1989, 2017) and finished runner-up in 2021.
