NORMAN, Okla. — The University of Oklahoma Track and Field program heads south this Saturday to Arlington, Texas for its second outdoor meet of the season in the Bobby Lane Invitational. The meet marks the 2009 outdoor debut for 27 Sooners after a group of seven throwers, who will also be competing this weekend, opened the outdoor season at last weekend's Tulsa Duals.

OU will attempt to defend four 2008 titles as Scottesha Miller (200-meter dash), Leslie Cole (400-meter dash) and the women's 4x400-meter relay, which returns Cole and Jalesa Walker, competes Saturday on the campus of UT-Arlington. Amy Backel, who won the javelin title in 2008, will compete in the women's shot put Saturday.

After just one weekend of competition, OU already owns three NCAA Midwest Regional qualifying marks as Luke Bryant (discus), Mark Costello (javelin) and Mikaela Johansson (hammer throw) all eclipsed the necessary marks needed in their respective events to compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional in Norman, May 29-30.

The weekend's field will feature a number of Olympians competing unattached, including three-time gold medalist Jeremy Wariner, along with NCAA Midwest Region rivals TCU, SMU, Tulsa and North Texas.

The meet will open Friday afternoon with the hammer throw contested on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Saturday action at UTA's Maverick Stadium begins at 9 a.m. with a number of field events while the running events begin at 1 p.m.
