NORMAN, Okla. -- The 41st-ranked University of Oklahoma men's tennis team (7-4) embarks on its first tournament of the season, The Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic, in Montgomery, Ala., held March 19-22 at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center. The Sooners begin tournament play in a rematch with No. 22 Boise State (9-6), Thursday, March 19 at 11 a.m.

OU played Boise State back on Feb. 7 at the Great Northwest Shootout in Seattle, Wash., but lost in a heartbreaker, 4-3.

"Our guys are ready to take them on again," head Coach Paul Lockwood said. "We are anxious to get going and get out on the courts here at this wonderful event."

The Blue-Gray Classic hosts the top tennis talent from around the country. In fact, all 16 teams competing are ranked in the ITA top 75. The 4th-ranked University of Tennessee Volunteers are the top seed in the tournament. The next highest ranked team is OU's first opponent, 22nd-ranked Boise State. Other notable ranked teams include No. 24 Alabama, No. 25 Oklahoma State and 26th-ranked Notre Dame.

Junior Andrei Daescu, ranked the 94th in singles player in the country, leads the Sooners against the Broncos. Daescu has manned the No. 1 position for the majority of the spring and has been a handful for opposing coaches to match up with.

Freshman George Chanturia and sophomore Ionut Beleleu each boast nine wins on the spring season and look poised to continue their winning ways in the tournament.

Sophomore David Pultr continues to prove he can handle any position the coaching staff asks him to play. Pultr, 8-3 this spring, has played the 2 through 6 positions for the Sooners.

Boise State enters the tournament with the No. 2 seed and are led by a trio of ranked singles players in Clancy Shields (No. 38), Kean Feeder (No. 78) and 80th-ranked James Meredith. The duo of Feeder and Meredith ranks 68th in doubles competition. For live scoring updates click the link below.
