Men's Tennis Prepped to Face Utah State in Opening Round of NCAA Norman Regional

NORMAN – The No. 9 seed Oklahoma men's tennis team begins its campaign in the DI Men's Tennis NCAA Championships in the Norman Regional. The Sooners face Utah State at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Friday, May 1, at 4 p.m. CT.

OU returns to its home courts after completing the regular-season in College Station, Texas with a win over then-No. 8 Texas A&M. The Sooners have hosted the opening rounds of the NCAA tournament in two of the last three seasons.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS BASICS

The first 200 fans in attendance to each day of the tournament can be admitted free of charge, thanks to the men's and women's tennis coaching staffs.

Tickets can be purchased here. Each match of the tournament can be followed through live stream and live stats. Further information can be located on the tournament central page. Fan entry will be through the outdoor ticket gate located in the breezeway between the Headington Family Tennis Center and John Crain Field.

The winner of Friday's matchup between the Sooners and the Aggies will face the victor of Friday's 1 p.m. competition between Duke and Southern California on Saturday, May 2, at 5 p.m. CT.

IN THE RANKINGS

The Sooners are nationally ranked as the No. 9 team in the April 30 ITA rankings. OU has six total individual rankings with four players ranked on the singles side and two doubles teams mentioned.

Luis Alvarez sits at a career-high No. 25 in singles and is ranked with Bruno Nhavene in doubles at No. 6.

Orel Kimhi is No. 68, Oscar Lacides is No, 76 and Johan Rodriguez is No. 100. Hank Trondson and Alejandro Melero are No. 70 on the doubles side.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

Utah State is 19-5 overall and 7-0 in conference play. The Aggies are currently on a 12-match win streak as they head into their third-ever NCAA tournament.

Utah State does not have any individual rankings as of April 30.
