Sooners Stand Fourth in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – The University of Oklahoma men's golf squad stands fourth after day one of the UTSA Intercollegiate at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas, on Monday. The Sooners fired a second-round team score of 3-under (281) in today's afternoon round after also reaching red figures in morning play (-1, 283).
Oklahoma is a stroke behind University of Texas-Arlington and just two shots shy of second-place Texas State at the par-71, 6765-yard layout. No. 15 Texas Tech fired an 18-under-par 266 in the second round, taking a 19-shot lead into Tuesday's final round of the 54-hole event.
The Sooners were paced by junior Ben Blundell (-6) who stands in a tie for second after rounds of 69 (-2) and 67 (-4). The Rowlett, Texas, native carded 11 birdies during the two rounds, including a morning stretch of four birdies in a six-hole span and an afternoon streak of four birdies in seven holes.
Liam Logan fired back-to-back rounds of 71 and heads into the final round in a share of 13th. Logan carded four birdies without a bogey on the back nine of his morning round (32).
Ryan Sirman (72-71) and Riley Pumphrey (71-72) are tied for 18th at 143 (+1). Pumphrey joined Logan with a 32 of his own on the front nine of his afternoon round.
Rounding out the Oklahoma scoring was sophomore Chris Wilson who carded rounds of 75 and 73, standing T37th after day one. Wilson carded the Sooners' lone eagle on Monday, with a three at the 640-yard, par-5 fifth hole.
Texas Tech's Chris Ward leads the medalist race at 11-under after rounds of 65 and 66.
Final-round action commences at 8:15 a.m. (CT) for OU on Tuesday. Wilson, Sirman, Pumphrey, Logan and Blundell will tee off in that order, with the groups spaced nine minutes apart. The Sooners are playing with Illinois State and Wichita State in the final round.
