Sooners Finish Fourth in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – The University of Oklahoma men's golf squad concluded the UTSA Intercollegiate in fourth place at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas, on Tuesday. The Sooners fired a final-round team tally of 302 (+18) at the par-71, 6765-yard layout, finishing the 54-hole event at +14.
No. 15 Texas Tech fired a 3-under-par 281 on Tuesday for a 28-under team total, securing the win by 20 shots over runner-up University of Texas-Arlington. Texas State finished third at +8.
The Sooners were led by Riley Pumphrey's third-place finish after a 4-under-par 67 in Tuesday's final round. Pumphrey's final round was highlighted by an unblemished 6-under string that included birdies at No. 4, No. 6, No. 8 and No. 11, and an eagle at the par-5 10th.
Four shots behind Pumphrey at +1 was junior Ben Blundell. The Rowlett, Texas, native carded rounds of 69, 67 and 78 in a 11th-place tie. Sophomore Chris Wilson carded bookend 75s with a second-round 73, finishing in a share of 38th at +10.
Two shots behind Wilson were Ryan Sirman and Liam Logan who rounded out the Oklahoma team scoring at +12, in a tie for 47th. Sirman shot an 82 on Tuesday, while Logan was a stroke behind at +12.
Overnight leader Chris Ward of Texas Tech (-11) took home medalist honors after rounds of 65, 66 and 71. Ward held off Red Raider teammate Nils Floren (-8) by three strokes.
The Sooners return to the links at the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic on March 9-10, in Fresno, Calif.
