BEIJING, China —  Former University of Oklahoma star Michael Blackwood closed out OU action at the 2008 Beijing Olympics with an eighth-place finish in the men's 4x400-meter relay.  The opening leg for his native Jamaica, Blackwood teamed with fellow countrymen Ricardo Chambers, Sanjay Ayre and Lanceford Spence to post a time of 3:01.45.

The United States won the event with an Olympic-record time of 2:55.39.

Blackwood, who also ran in the 400-meter dash, was one of four track and field Olympians this year from the Oklahoma track program.  Jamaican Danny McFarlane took fourth in the 400-meter hurdles while Aldwyn Sappleton, also of Jamaica, was eliminated in the 800-meter run.  Laverne Jones-Ferrette, competing under the Virgin Islands flag, ran in the 100- and 200-meter dash.
