BEIJING, China — University of Oklahoma alum Laverne Jones-Ferrette's 2008 Olympic action in Beijing came to an end Tuesday morning after being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the women's 200-meter dash. The Virgin Islands native finished seventh in the first heat with a time of 23.37.
Jamaica's Veronica Campbell-Brown took first in Jones-Ferrette's heat with a time of 22.64. Sherona Simpson, also of Jamaica, led all competitors advancing to the semifinals with a time of 22.60.
Oklahoma-related action in the Bird's Nest in Beijing is not over, however, as Aldwyn Sappleton begins competition for Jamaica in the men's 800-meter run on Wednesday at 6 a.m. CST. Michael Blackwood will return to the track on Friday as a member of Jamaica's 4x400-meter relay, slated to begin at 7:10 a.m.
