BEIJING, China — Former University of Oklahoma athlete Michael Blackwood narrowly missed advancing to the semifinals of the men's 400-meter dash Sunday night at the Olympic Games in Beijing. Running under the Jamaican flag, Blackwood finished fourth in the event's sixth heat with a time of 45.56.
Great Britian's Andrew Steele took first in Blackwood's heat with a time of 44.94 followed by the Trinidad and Tobago's Renny Quow (45.13) and the Bahama's Michael Mathieu (45.17).
Missing the automatic qualification as a top-three finisher in a heat, Blackwood was just two spots out from securing a spot in the semifinals as one of the three fastest competitors to not automatically qualify. Belguim's Kevin Borlee grabbed the last at-large spot with a time of 45.43.
Blackwood's Olympic action is not over, however, as the sprinter will return to action on Friday as a member of Jamaica's 4x400-meter relay.
