NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma vice president for intercollegiate athletics programs and director of athletics Joe Castiglione and OU women's golf head coach Carol Ludvigson announced OU's 2008-09 schedule, a slate that features four fall tournaments and eight spring events.
The Sooners begin competition Sept. 22-24 in Denver, Colo., at the University of Denver Invitational. The team will then travel to Chicago to participate in the Northwestern Invitational (Oct. 6-7), as well as Las Cruces, N.M., for the New Mexico State University Invitational (Oct. 13-15) and Oahu, Hawaii, for the University of Hawaii Invitational (Oct. 28-29).
"We are starting with a very competitive schedule and will be putting our young guns to the fire right away," Ludvigson said. "We'll be seeing a lot of top-25 teams throughout the season. We normally see teams from the central part of the country, but this year we'll also see how teams play from the West at the tournament in Hawaii."
The Sooners will cross waters to tee off the spring season in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at the Purdue Invitational (Feb. 8- 10), before traveling to Parrish, Fla., for the Central District Invitational (Sept. 16-17), to Austin, Texas, for the Betsy Rawls Invitational (March 20-22), and to Tucson, Ariz., for the Mountainview Invitational (March 28-29). OU will host the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman (April 5-6) before competing in the Big 12 Championship in Lubbock, Texas (April 24-26), and NCAA Regionals (May 7-9 at a yet-to-be-determined site). The NCAA Championship will be played in Owing Mills, Md. (May 19-22).
Senior Kendall Dye (Edmond, Okla.) and sophomore Ellen Mueller (Bartlesville, Okla.) will be paving the way for the Sooners in 2008-09. With much experience and leadership returning from a successful 2007-08 season, Coach Ludvigson hopes this year's OU squad will move into the national rankings.
"Kendall and Ellen have been making a big impact with their individual careers and have matured in their games," Ludvigson said. "We'd like to end up in the top three at our tournaments and end up in the top 25 in the nation at the end of our season."
