NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma women's outdoor track and field team has reached its highest position in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings released on Thursday by the organization.

Performances at last week's Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships enabled six female Sooners to climb in individual event rankings to help OU jump five spots in the rankings to No. 15.  The OU women are the third-ranked Big 12 team behind the nation's top-ranked team and conference champion, Texas A&M, and No. 4 Texas Tech.  The Oklahoma men moved up 12 spots to No. 32 led by the nation's top triple jumper in Shardae Boutte.

The USTFCCCA Division I indoor track and field rankings are compiled solely from NCAA descending order lists.

Five OU women are ranked in the top-10 nationally.  Junior Leslie Cole moved up one spot in the women's 400-meter dash to No. 6 while Big 12 100-meter hurdles champion Latoya Greaves jumped three spots to No. 8.  Sophomore Scottesha Miller attained top-10 rankings in two events with school-record times in the 100-meter dash (No. 8) and the 200-meter dash (No. 10).  Cole and Miller along with Jalesa Walker and Missy Barnes make up the women's 4x100-meter relay that is ranked seventh nationally.  Cole is also ranked No. 13 in the 200.

On the men's side Boutte leads the way with a school-record and nation's best jump of 54 feet and 4.75 inches (16.58 meters) in the triple jump.  Marcus Pugh is No. 9 and No. 10, respectively, in the men's 100- and 200-meter dash.  Boutte's triple jumping teammate, Tydree Lewis, is No. 12 while Paul Gill rounds out the Oklahoma men's top-20 athletes at No. 20 in the high jump.

Texas A&M is the women's top-ranked team while LSU holds the distinction on the men's side.

The Sooners are off this weekend as they prepare for the 2008 NCAA Midwest Regional, May 30-31, in Lincoln, Neb.  In 2007 the Oklahoma men claimed the Midwest Regional team title while sending 14 men, a nation's best, to the 2007 NCAA Championships. Seven Sooner woman qualified for the national meet as well.
