AMES, Iowa -- Oklahoma sprinter Leslie Cole finished third in the 400-meter dash at the Cyclone National Track & Field Qualifer, but more importantly improved her time on the season with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 53.44.
Cole improved on her previous best of 53.48 set at last week's Big 12 Championships, a meet that Cole also finished third in.
Cole's teammate Tijahnni Newton finished seventh with a season-best time of 55.38.
The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held next weekend, March 14-15, at the Randal Tyson Track Complex in Fayetteville, Ark. Oklahoma currently has one automatic qualifier in triple jumper Shardae Boutte and 14 provisional qualifiers.
Final selections for the meet will be announced Monday, March 10, at 8 p.m. CT.
