NORMAN, Okla. -- Shardae Boutte is the nation's top athlete in the men's triple jump while the Oklahoma men's indoor track and field team remained in the top 10, at No. 6, in the latest national rankings released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Oklahoma began the year at No. 17 in the polls, which are compiled strictly from the NCAA descending order lists and are released each Wednesday, and climbed to No. 3 on Jan. 30th. Since the release of the preseason poll, OU has not been ranked any lower than seventh in the nation.
Arizona State is currently the nation's top-ranked team followed by the defending outdoor national champion, Florida State, at No. 2 and last week's top-ranked team, Tennessee, at No. 3.

OU is led by the senior Boutte who posted the nation's longest triple jump at last weekend's Tyson Invitational. Boutte's jump of 54 feet and one inch (16.48 meters) smashed the previous OU record in the event of 53-1.50 (16.19), set by Jerome Douglas in 1997. Boutte's jump also marked the second time of the season that he has eclipsed the NCAA automatic qualifying mark at the site of the NCAA Indoor National Championship, after doing so in January's Razorback Invitational.
Boutte is also ranked 20th nationally in the long jump with a mark of 24-11.75 (7.61).
Sheldon Leith and Marcus Pugh have both maintained their No. 5 rankings in the 60-meter hurdles (7.73) and 60-meter dash (6.64), respectively. Pugh also debuted in the 200-meter dash national rankings, running the ninth-fastest time in the nation, 21.12, at the Tyson Invitational.
The men's distance medley relay team (9:42.35) and triple jumper Tydree Lewis (52-7.25/16.03) both rank eighth nationally while heptathlete Mitch Henry ranks 14th with 5,329 points.
Tony Clement rounds out the Oklahoma men in the national rankings, as the No. 20 800-meter runner nationally with a time of 1:50.10
Latoya Greaves is ranked 15th nationally in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.27 while Scottesha Miller is 24th in the long jump (20-2.50/6.16).
LSU is the nation's top-ranked women's team.
This weekend OU hosts the 2008 Sooner Indoor Open at the Mosier Indoor Facility. The one day meet kicks off Saturday morning at 10:15 a.m. with the women's weight throw. Running events begin at 12:30 p.m. with the women's mile.
