NORMAN, Okla. -- Senior Jamie Alexander leads the men's heptathlon after one day of competition at the eighth annual J.D. Martin Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma at the Mosier Indoor Facility.
Alexander holds a 19-point edge of over Oral Roberts' Ernest Martinez with 2,777 points with three of the heptathlon's seven events remaining. Alexander finished first in both the 60-meter dash and shot put while Martinez took top honors in the high jump.
OU freshman Zac Givens, competing unattached, is in seventh with 1,849 points.
In the women's pentathlon, Oklahoma's Ashley Hagensick and Carli Wester finished second and third, respectively. Hagensick took second in the high jump and finished with 2,941 points while Wester took second in the long jump and the 60-meter hurdles to finish with 2,899 points.
Tracy Partain, competing unattached, claimed the title in the women's pentathlon with a total score of 4,061, claiming the Mosier Indoor Facility record by 119 points.
Saturday's events begin at 9:30 a.m. with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon. Both running and field events begin at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free to the public.
