NORMAN, Okla. --  Oklahoma's Shardae Boutte was named the Co-Big 12 Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week by the conference office on Tuesday.

Boutte shares the honor with James Galvan of Iowa State after claiming the triple jump title in last weekend's Arkansas Invitational. Boutte's jump of 52 feet and 11.5 inches (16.14 meters) earned him an automatic qualification in the 2008 NCAA Indoor National Championships. The senior's mark is the nation's second-longest jump and is 10 inches longer than the second-best jump in the Big 12 this season, held by fellow Sooner Tydree Lewis.

Boutte had previously received the honor during the 2007 outdoor season after bounding 52 feet, 1.75 inches (15.89 meters), then a personal best, in the triple jump at the Arkansas Twilight.

Galvan shared the honor with Boutte after breaking the Iowa State program record in the 800-meter run with a time of one minute and 48.36 seconds, the fastest in the nation. Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech recieved the women's honor after posting the nation's fastest collegiate time in the 10,000 meters, 9:05.45, at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games.

Boutte and the rest of the Sooners next action comes in Norman as they host the eighth annual J.D. Martin Invitational, Feb. 1-2, in the Mosier Indoor Facility. Action kicks off Friday at 1 p.m. with the women's pentathlon followed by the beginning of the men's heptathlon at 2 p.m.

Saturday's events begin at 9:30 a.m. with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon. Field events begin at 11 a.m. while running events start at 12:30 p.m. Admission is free to the public.
